Walking along the main boulevard of Dumaguete while taking in the beauty of the coastline and its peaceful atmosphere, one would hardly think that the city used to be a site of clashes with Muslim pirates hundreds of years ago. Present-day Dumaguete has various treasures in store for modern-day wanderers seeking to discover historical sites, culinary pleasures, and natural wonders.
For nature-lovers, there is more to be discovered beyond Dumaguete’s shores. Delve into the crystal blue waters of Apo Island for a magnificent underwater excursion, or explore the untouched natural wonders and powdery white beaches of mythical Siquijor, Negros Oriental’s neighboring island province.
For an immersive retreat, take a day trip to the Manjuyod Sand Bar, a 7-kilometer stretch of white sand, and witness the ephemeral changing of tides as the crystal blue waters fall and rise.
Sta. Monica Beach Club is a fitting backdrop for blooming love and new beginnings, with its spectacular view of the Dumaguete coastline’s famous sunrise. Take a walk along the seawall with a cup of coffee or tableya in one hand and your lover’s hand in another as you prepare for a rejuvenating day ahead.
Under the Sea
Dumaguete is a hub for tourists and divers seeking to explore the rich biodiversity of its surrounding waters.
One of the area’s top diving destinations is Apo Island, located seven kilometers off the southeastern tip of Negros Oriental. The island is home to a protected marine sanctuary that is home to more than 400 species of corals and 650 species of fish, including an impressive variety of clownfish species. Its underwater splendor has helped it earn its place as one of the most popular diving spots in the Philippines. Apo Island is accessible via a 45-minute boat or car ride from Dumaguete to Zamboanguita, and a 45- minute boat ride from the Zamboanguita port.
