Koh Yao Noi - a popular new destination in Phang Nga Bay
Koh Yao Noi is an hour boat ride East of Phuket, in amazing Phang Nga Bay. It is large enough to have a vibrant village in the middle, plus rice fields. Small resorts, restaurants and bars are now developing along its East coast beaches as it evolves into a resort island.
Being high in the shallow, sheltered waters of Phang Nga Bay, it does not have well-developed beaches, and the water is a cloudy green here – pretty, but forget snorkelling and diving. The scenery is spectacular. Phang Nga is famous for the unusual shaped, monolithic mountains that rise vertically out of its calm waters. A group of strange shapes rises directly in front of the East coast resorts, creating an other-worldly horizon. See our beach photos.
The island also has a few of its own strange, karst mountains. At the northern tip the luxury boutique beach resort, Paradise Koh Yao, lies in the shadow of one, and gives its guests kayaks to paddle among these strange formations.
Four other beachfront resorts are found along the southeast beaches, with two of those offering luxury in ocean view chalets and garden villas. The 4-star Koyao Island Resort is Thai style set in a coconut grove in one of the best beach locations. 5-star Six Senses Hideaway Yao Noi straddles a hill, giving panoramic views over islands towards the mountains of Krabi, which guests can enjoy from the luxury & privacy of their elevated pool villas.
The southeast beaches are accessible by a road from the central village, and the nearby jetty on the south coast.
