Mr Gao Bungalows is one of the early arrivals on Khao Kwai Beach North, and is quite well-known among travellers.Mr Gao (the owner's name) has 10 bungalows set into the forest at the back of the beach, with many having sea views through the trees. The bungalows are all basic backpacker style, but clean and with the basics, some having nice open-air bathrooms. Prices are budget.
The mix of forest and garden in which these are set makes this place very attractive in a natural way. The restaurant is quite large and offers a good variety of Thai food. Here you can dine in the open-air pavilion or right under the trees with your feet in the sand.... almost right on the beach.
Mr Gao offers massage by the beach, has kayaks for rent and arranges boat trips for fishing, snorkelling or diving. Mr Gao is one of the few cheaper bungalows on Koh Phayam that opens through the monsoon season. Reserve by E-mail or phone. See details on the Contacts page here.

For many years this restaurant has a very high reputation and attracts many people from the island, serving generous portions and delicious Thai and western food. "Today's Specials" such as Mackerel with Garlic or Shrimps with Basil and Chillies are announced every day on a blackboard. A good choice of cakes is available as well depending somewhat on availability from the bakery on the island. The service is remarkably good and well supervised by the owner.

services and facilities

During 6-hours low tide the strip of strand in the southern part of the bay dries out. The beach along the east of the island turns to mud.
Not so in the northern part of the Aow Kao Kwai “Buffalo Bay”.

Our guests can be at the beach, swim, snorkel and kayak ride
:) regardless of the low tide :) what is definitely a great advantage and something special.

Sun… Sea… Sand between Toes…

The village and pier are within walking distance. Aow Yai’s motor-scooter and party beach is a 15-minute drive away.
