White House Bailan Resort
EDITOR’S INDEPENDENT REVIEW:White House Bailan Resort is a small, rustic ocean-side resort with simple but pleasant bungalows set into a blend of gardens and natural forest – and all rooms are painted a crisp, clean white. The location at the bottom of Koh Chang’s west coast is far from the busy beaches, and in fact most of the coast here is rocky shore rather than beach. But White House is lucky, for it just meets the top end of the only little beach in the area. That beach is in front of the much bigger Mercure Hideaway resort, but is of course available for White House guests. White House has also built it own sandy sun deck by the beach.
White House has created a pleasant forest atmosphere through its resort and around its swimming pool. For such a small beach retreat, the pool is quite a good size, and has an area for small kids. From the pool deck where guests spend much of their time, the beach and ocean can be viewed through leafy trees, while heavily forested mountains almost loom up behind. Despite that resorts run close on each side, guests hardly feel their presence – most are also built into the trees. This section of natural coastline is great for kayaking.
As our Editor photos show, the bungalows stand crisp white against their lush green surrounds, imparting the feel of a place under immaculate care. The interiors follow through the with white theme, and while they are rather simple, they are clean and comfortable with all of the basics for a carefree holiday; air-conditioning, bathrooms with hot water, satellite TV, Wifi internet connections and private balconies with pleasant views.
White House Bailan Resort is set up for families, however, the isolation might prove to restricting for kids. This is ideally suited to couples seeking a truly private island hideaway in an exceptionally natural environment. And simple but clean, comfortable accommodations.
